About me as a both a dancer and a teacher

My dance studio was my 2nd home. It was the place where I made all my friends and wanted to be 24/7. I grew up loving Jazz and still to this day it’s my favourite genre. My dance teacher was my absolute favourite person in the entire world. I felt so seen, understood and appreciated for who I was that a lot of my confidence now, stemmed from being given the freedom to be myself back then. As a teacher myself I often reflect and think if she was trained to facilitate emotional regulation, conflict resolution or deepen self awareness, I would have literally sat and listened to every single word that came out of her mouth. That’s how powerful & influential dance teachers can be.

I wonder what would could have been developed in me at a younger age if I was encouraged to have these kinds of conversations. This is WHY I do what I do.

I use dance as a vehicle for embodiment, exploration and inquiry

BECOME A BAMD TEACHER

Want to run Inclusive dance classes for people with disabilities at your studio?

At BAMD we guide studio owners, teachers, student teachers & instructors to build solid, individual teaching philosophies to best support dancers with disabilities. If you’re looking to feel confident facilitating a dance space for any student of any age and ability, you’re in the right place!

From gaining clarity on lesson structure, cultivating connection, setting expectations, teaching choreography and more, you and your staff will walk away feeling excited to create a more inclusive studio!

Teaching is a privilege. It’s a responsibility that I feel honoured to embody, knowing that other humans are looking to me for leadership and guidance. I’m literally holding their hearts and heads in my hands.

Founding Bust a Move Dance , one of Australia’s first dance companies for children, teens and adults with disabilities, is my greatest achievement. When I created it as a teenager I had no idea I was creating a legacy that would last this long. I am so proud of the community that stands strong in its celebration of inclusion and it will continue to be my greatest joy watching it grow.

Our motto is Limitless, Inclusive, Love. This means creating a fun and safe environment, free of the shame and judgement so often impressed onto minority groups by a privileged status quo. This allows people with or without disabilities to enjoy limitless learning and self expression through dance.
